The Puducherry Pradesh Congress Committee on Wednesday staged a demonstration as a mark of protest against Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement that people selling pakodas could also be considered as employed.
Addressing party workers, Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy said the Bharatiya Janata Party came to power with the promise to provide employment to one crore people annually.
However, the BJP-led NDA government had failed miserably to fulfil the promise. In the last four years, the Centre could provide only 47 lakh jobs, he said. The implementation of Goods and Services Tax and demonetisation had dealt a blow on the economy, he added.
People have realised the folly of electing the BJP and the party would be voted out of power in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, Mr. Narayanasamy said.
